Two Open Calls in Sofia Artists Shouldn’t Miss This Year

Sofia is quietly becoming one of Southeast Europe’s most exciting meeting points for artists and the music industry alike – and this year, two major open calls offer musicians the chance to step beyond “just playing a gig” and into real, career-shaping opportunities.

A conference-led showcase and a festival-powered international program are both looking for new voices. If you’re planning your next move for 2026, these dates belong in your calendar.

SoAlive Music Conference & Festival: Balkans Focus Showcase
14–16 October 2026
Deadline: 10 February 2026

Part festival, part music conference, SoAlive has quickly grown into one of the region’s key industry meeting points, welcoming hundreds of international delegates – bookers, labels, promoters, export offices, digital platforms, and media – to Sofia for three focused days of discovery and networking.

This isn’t about playing to a random crowd. It’s about playing to the right people. Selected artists receive a full 45-minute professional showcase slot, conference access, direct networking opportunities, and covered production support (tech, backline, sound, plus travel and accommodation assistance).

For Balkan artists especially, it’s a rare chance to perform in front of exactly the people who can open doors to touring, international festivals, and cross-border collaborations. If your project is ready to travel beyond your home scene, this is where conversations start.

A to JazZ Festival: International World Music Showcase
2 July 2026
Deadline: 6 February 2026

Known as one of Bulgaria’s leading open-air summer music festivals, A to JazZ pairs its relaxed park atmosphere with a professional conference-style program designed specifically for emerging world music artists.

Twelve acts will be selected for an international showcase that combines a live performance with training sessions, speed meetings, and curated encounters with festival programmers and cultural professionals from across Europe. In other words: not only stage time, but real access. Participants receive accommodation, a performance budget, professional video recording, and entry to the wider delegate network – practical tools that continue to support artists long after the applause fades.

If your sound sits somewhere between tradition, roots, and contemporary global influences, this program is built for you.

Why a showcase matters (and how it’s different from “just a festival slot”)

A regular festival booking is mostly about the audience, while a showcase festival is about the industry. You’re not just performing – you’re presenting your project to professionals actively searching for artists to book, fund, and support. It’s a concentrated environment where one set can lead to multiple invitations, partnerships, or tours.

If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to take your music further, this might be it. Good luck!
